Happy National #Pie Day!
I’ve rounded up photos of some of my favorite pies or tarts from this year. Chef Tyler Brown from The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville visited over the summer and his Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Tart with Jack Daniels Ice Cream is one of my high on a pedestal pies from this year. Chef Phil Krajeck’s Astrid’s Peach Pie was revelatory and made with crushed Ritz Crackers! I also ventured to Brooklyn for a savory slant. Saraghina’s pizzas were some of the best I’ve ever had, and 5 Leaves serves a Shepherd’s Pie that I still dream of. I sampled my hometown’s favorites like the chocolate pie with a mile-high meringue from the Crystal Grill and Crawfish Pie from the super-talented Chef Taylor Bowen Ricketts at Delta Bistro. I even made pies on my own like the White Chocolate Banana Tart I made at the Viking Cooking School in Greenwood, Mississippi, but I’d have to say that the Raspberry Swamp Pie from @food52 is one of the best pies I’ve ever made. It has been a good year!
I hope there is a lot more pie on the horizon in 2012. What was the best pie you had this year?
